Full Job Description
Position Summary: The Accounting Manager will be responsible for a variety of accounting tasks involved with a growing non-profit organization. This position will have responsibility for the organization’s treasury, auditing schedules, payroll and AP oversight along with other accounting and managerial duties. The Foundation runs an impact fund in Africa, has several grants in the US, and has operations in Colombia. The Foundation is in the process of implementing DynamicsGP, giving the opportunity to create and implement many processes and procedures.   Reports To: Controller   Job Type: Full-time; Exempt; Salaried   Location: This position is located in Broomfield, Colorado.   Specific Job responsibilities: Accounting
  • Close within 10 days of month end.
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations; follow up on outstanding items and clearing of open items every month.
  • Preparation of monthly and YE journal entries.
  • Assign project codes keeping consistent with methodology established.
  • Determine appropriate revenue recognition and determine if transactions are unrestricted or temporarily restricted, etc.
  • Assist Controller in identifying financial reporting requirements at the time of grant awards, track due dates, and submit reports on time.
  • Review of consolidated financial reporting incorporating all locations.
Grant tracking
  • Coordinate with programs and Controller to ensure financial information related to grants are accurate, timely, and responsive to grant guidelines.
  • Ensure that OEF has a system for tracking grant/partner financial information as required.
  • Maintaining current systems or implementing systems needed.
Impact fund accounting
  • Review of monthly reconciliations of loans.
  • Monthly review of aging reports with the team in Africa.
  • Assist Controller with YE review of bad debt and valuations.
Treasury Management
  • Track cash balances on a weekly basis, working with international teams to ensure they are cash positive for operating expenses.
  • Track restricted cash amounts.
  • Determine when intercompany transfers need to be made and prepare transfers accordingly.
Audits/taxes
  • Prepare schedules for audits, including gathering source documentation and coordinating testing as needed.
  • Prepare schedules for tax preparation including oversight on expenditure responsibility forms.
Payroll
  • Oversee bi-weekly payroll processing using DynamicsGP.
  • Review the payroll register and quarterly reports.
  • Review payroll reconciliations to the general ledger.
  • Oversee and ensure accuracy of employer tax filings for federal and state taxes.
  • Oversee the reconciliation of vacation, sick accruals, and FSA accounts.
  • Preparation of W-2’s and W-3 at year end.
  • Timely follow up on employer tax-related notices.
Accounts Payable
  • Manage vendor payments and employee reimbursements, including the collection and audit of W9’s for domestic and W8’s for international vendors.
  • Set up vendors in the accounting system to receive 1099’s at year end.
  • Issue year-end 1099 Misc and 1096 report.
  • Assist program management with understanding accounts payable procedures, ensuring proper processes are followed for approvals.
  • Assist Controller with audit requests and organizing source documentation for audit.
  • Scanning/Filing invoices and receipts.
  • Assist Controller with special projects.
  Job Requirements:
  • Possess sound judgment along with a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and dependability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience that included the fiscal administration of grants or contracts.
  • Knowledge of AP process and how to code AP as administrative vs. program expenses.
  • Understanding of GAAP (IFRS a plus).
  • Knowledge of labor laws and payroll processing.
  • 2+ years of payroll and payables experience.
  • Highly proficient in Excel.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability and creative skills to adapt to a changing, growing environment.
  • Relates well to many types of people and can build rapport in a friendly, constructive and effective way.
  • Takes initiative and is able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • 2 years in an accounting supervisory role.
  Preferred but not required:
  1. DynamicsGP or other large ERP experience
  2. Spanish speaker
  3. High preference for non-profit accounting experience
  4. CPA
  Physical Work Demands:
  • Able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Able to bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
  • Able to lift and move up to 25 lbs regularly.
