DIRECTOR OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
Role
The Director of External Affairs will lead the development and management of One Earth Future’s communications strategies, stakeholder engagement, and implementation. The Director will work in coordination with other directors and strategy teams at OEF to develop and implement ideas and products that ensure that OEF and its programs leverage communication tools to achieve strategic objectives. Managing a distributed team of communication professionals, the Director will oversee media outreach, stakeholder engagement, media production, campaign development and implementation, as well as internal communications. We are looking for an experienced, dynamic professional to work alongside program directors and with foundation staff, both domestic and international, to ensure that they are maximizing the use of a full suite of communications tools to achieve their strategic objectives.

Primary Responsibilities
- Manage and direct One Earth Future’s communications objectives and, working with other directors and program staff, engage with key stakeholders through a variety of channels to ensure that OEF’s communications and program objectives are being met.
- Work with the Vice President of Strategy to ensure that the OEF brand and communications objectives are internalized by all staff throughout OEF and its programs
- Ensure program communications initiatives are in direct alignment with overall OEF goals as well as brand strategy goals and objectives.
- Develop and maintain systems and practices related to internal communications, especially as it relates to identifying stories from OEF programs that illustrate the broader OEF message.
- Work with OEF program directors and staff to build program outreach objectives, identify target audiences, and develop messages and communications products that help achieve programmatic outcomes.
- Work with program directors and foundation executives to ensure that their public engagements further the overall OEF brand and/or program objectives.
- Articulate a clear vision and objective of integrated communications campaigns and provide ongoing strategic direction, ensuring accuracy of content and tonality.
- Oversee media production and quality control, ensuring that each product is tied to relevant strategic objectives and tailored to meet those objectives.
- Develop and maintain departmental budget, policies, procedures, and guidelines as directed and within the organization’s policy.
- Manage budget to milestones, deliverables, costs and quality of work.
- Ensure that communications strategies and plans result in the highest possible ROI.
- Ensure all programs key communications attributes are consistently and accurately reflected in all communication channels.
- Review and approves all communications outreach and campaigns, evaluate creative content for print and digital.
- Lead and manage OEF’s strategic communication team worldwide.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies
- At least 10 years of experience in strategic communications in-house at an organization/company managing multiple communications priorities and objectives (Experience w/ international non-profits a plus).
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities in managing, coaching and developing a team.
- Strong leadership, excellent communication and effective relationship building skills.
- Effective presentation skills and ability to influence at the executive and director level.
- Strong ability to work in ambiguous situations and provide leadership amongst the ambiguity.
- A proven track record of successfully reaching policymakers and media in multiple countries.
- An audience-driven approach to marketing and strategic communication.
- A proven track record of successfully managing teams as well as designing and implementing communication campaigns and objectives.
- Experience driving brand and marketing messages through all forms of media, including traditional and digital platforms.
Physical Work Demands:
- Able to sit at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Able to bend at the waist and reach on a daily basis.
- Able to lift and move up to 25 lbs regularly.
