Full Job Description

Summary of Position:

Reporting to the President, the Controller is a key member of the Company and will be expected to play a critical role in HempFusion™’s future growth and development. The Controller directs and manages the Company’s financial (finance, accounting, legal and insurance) and information technology functions. The Controller takes an active role in strategic planning, financial analysis, policy development and deployment, problem resolution and financial communication to the President. Like all of the executive roles in the Company, the Controller role is a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves position supported by a lean, but bright, staff.

Major Objectives:

Assimilate into the HempFusion™’s culture and mores and learn the Company’s unique core business practices. Once the business is thoroughly understood, the Controller will act as analyst and advisor by providing effective decision support to the President.

Master the Company’s accounting, financial reporting and business analysis systems and tools. Provide management with an assessment on any value-added improvements and make best practice recommendations.

Provide leadership and direction in the definition and implementation of Company goals and objectives through an annual plan and budget process that emphasizes the effective and efficient deployment of Company resources with appropriate involvement and accountability at all management levels.

Working with the President, develop and implement an adaptive management process, utilizing rolling forecasts, key performance indicators and trend analyses so the business can sense and respond swiftly to shifting business realities.

Working with the President, develop and implement key measures, metrics and benchmarking practices.

Responsible for the planning, development, deployment and operational management of a Company-wide, mission critical technology services function.

Administer the Company’s cost savings and operational efficiency initiatives while ensuring that the savings and efficiencies don’t come at the expense of the customer.

Recruit, develop and retain a highly-skilled and passionate staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Acts as the President’s chief financial advisor, managing all financial operations of HempFusion™ including financial planning and forecasting, financial analyses, accounting, and information technology (IT).

Prepares timely and accurate monthly financial statements, flash reports and related reports including, but not limited to, balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports and other financial analyses for presentation to the President and investors.

Provides leadership and direction in the definition and implementation of Company goals and growth objectives through an annual plan and budget process that emphasizes the effective and efficient deployment of Company resources.

Coordinates the preparation of short-term and long-range plans, budgets and financial forecasts, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification for proposed budgets.  Monitors and analyzes monthly operating results against budget.

Acts as a financial liaison with operating department heads, understanding their budgets, investigating variances and providing decision support.

Working with the President, provides financial oversight and analysis of the Company’s performance to include identifying financial issues and taking a lead role in developing strategies for resolving them.

Develops and implements benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of the Company.

Manage all accounting functions and systems including but not limited to cash, accounts receivable, fixed assets, accounts payable, payroll and cost accounting.

Provides overall direction and coordination of all activities relating to the establishment, implementation and operation of financial and accounting systems and controls.

Lead the Company’s Information Technology function, develop an information technology strategy, which ensures that IT is supporting the business, forecast hardware and software annual budgets.

Advise organization on the appropriate use of technology in support of business goals and coordinate with President to improve productivity and service delivery.

Candidate Criteria:

Education and Certification:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related major.

Advanced degree and/or CPA certification preferred.

Professional Qualifications:

A financial executive with 10-15 years of progressive finance and accounting experience within a fast-paced, high-growth process manufacturing environment.

Sound technical skills and experience in financial reporting, forecasting, modeling and analysis, cash flow management with a strong operational focus. Working knowledge of GAAP.

A track record that indicates the ability to not only be a member of a Company’s management team but to be an active participant in the Company’s culture and day-to-day business operations.

Must possess leadership competency to effectively partner with a high-energy President with personal qualities of confidence, resourcefulness, flexibility, creativity and integrity.

Demonstrated experience providing innovative leadership in the issues related to the key financial disciplines of finance, accounting, financial planning and reporting, budgeting, financial systems and performance analysis.

Ability to utilize excellent analytical skills, critical thinking and creativity while collaborating with President to fully understand, agree upon and shape Company objectives.

Experience using data effectively to develop and implement operational plans and actions.

Working knowledge of QuickBooks Enterprise and Fishbowl Inventory, or other leading accounting software applications, MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint.

Excellent communication skills and ability to interact professionally with all levels within the organization and with external customers.
