We are looking for someone who is ready to be hands on in the plant and work directly with our corporate office. This could be a great opportunity for a Quality Assurance Manager looking to step up into the Director role.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Director of Quality & Food Safety is responsible to lead and direct all facets of the production facilities Quality and Food Safety functions. The position provides leadership and direction for the quality control team and will develop and oversee all food safety regulations, policies, and procedures. This critical role will help to enhance, maintain and enforce security and food safety standards, policies, and programs including, regulatory audits, food safety training programs, standard operating procedures (SOP’s), product inspections, and standardized work instructions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Develop and maintain a Quality Management Program to drive improvement across the entire organization and aligned with industry best practices in traceability documentation structure
- Maintain and drive a safe working environment among the Quality staff and company organization
- Embody a vision and mission to continue to build a world class Quality organization working through others
- Create and maintain a Quality Audit System across the companies supply chain
- Participate in the GFSI certification audits
- Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the GFSI systems
- Support quality initiatives by participating in routine Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) walkthroughs and participating in or leading any food safety or quality initiatives.
- Monitor to ensure that Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), Hazard Analysis and Risk-based Preventive Controls (HARPC), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), allergen programs, formulations, and finished product meet specification
- Ensure that receiving procedures for incoming and outgoing finished products to ingredients are in compliance with quality and safety standards.
- Collaborate with Sourcing and Procurement to identify Quality criteria for all sourced raw and packaging materials
- Refine and maintain a supplier audit framework collaborating with procurement to drive improvements in supplier quality
- Provide guidance and recommend solutions for Supplier related Quality issues including facilitating partnership meetings and corrective action procedures
- Assist Corporate Food Technology with product development and/or product/process improvement projects
- Supervise and coach direct reports in the performance of their duties; complete performance reviews and provides feedback to direct reports
- Provide direction to QA Managers to enable organizational alignment and achievement of the Quality plan
- Build capability for continuous improvement through the development of Quality tools, training and resources.
- Provide guidance and recommend solutions to internal teams on Quality related production issues
- Provide guidance and support to facilitate corrective actions around consumer feedback
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field required (Biochemistry, Chemistry, Engineering or Food Science preferred); Master’s Degree Preferred
- A minimum of 5 years quality experience in a manufacturing environment in fast moving consumer goods required
- A minimum of 3 years of leading, managing and developing employees is required
- PCQI Certification (or willingness to become certified)
- Experience in Organic and Kosher Certification
- Understanding of USDA/FDA regulations, HARPC/HACCP, ISO, GMPs, SOPs
- 2 + years’ quality assurance lab experience
- Ability to effectively build productive, efficient, engaged teams
- Focused and driven to deliver agreed targets on revenue and margin
- Demonstrates good interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent collaboration skills
- Expert-level problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents

Salary: $85,000 - $100,000 DOE
