JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Technical Writer–Editor is a newly created position on the Marketing and Communications team and supports all teams within the Center. Skilled in the ability to research technical legal and policy topics, formulate customer-facing marketing and communications materials, compose high-quality written publications, move them through the approval process, and assist with publication, the Senior Technical Writer–Editor will translate ideas into concepts that engage and inspire audiences.

The Marketing and Communications team strongly supports education and outreach and the office of the CEO in creating presentation and summary materials for the board, keynote presentations, website engagement, videos and educational materials and podcasts. The right person for this role has impeccable taste, is highly motivated, flexible, detail-oriented, must takes feedback well, but confident in their artistic vision.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Write and edit general and technical materials; distill legal and policy concepts into digestible information and compelling marketing content; translate legal and policy jargon into everyday language for various audiences
- Research, write, and edit long- and short-form content, including manuals and guides, website copy, flyers, one-pagers and brochures, blog posts, social media content, sales and marketing collateral, and email
- Develop educational and outreach materials to improve stakeholder communications and understanding of topic areas
- Research and author content from specifications and interviews with subject-matter experts; analyze subject matter and audiences to present material clearly and accurately
- Consult directly with lawyers and subject-matter experts about writing and revising documents; provide guidance on effective writing
- Review material for proper grammatical usage, punctuation, format, spelling, style, and order of presentation; rewrite copy to improve clarity of meaning and consistency; edit and fact-check written content prepared by others
- Review narrative presentations, tables, graphs, drawings, appendices, and other illustrative materials
- Serve as an editorial and communications adviser to Center leadership and staff; provide sound communications counsel and advice to various partners across the team
- Build and maintain a pipeline of communications products, determining appropriate prioritization and timelines; deliver accurate publications on schedule
- Other duties and projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 5–7 years of experience as a writer with experience in nonprofit, legal, policy development, government, and/or youth advocacy
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or marketing
- Expert-level writing and editing skills with an eye for detail; passion for the written word
- Ability to aggregate and synthesize large volumes of information from multiple sources
- Eagerness for collaboration and amenable to feedback
- Well-versed in AP and Chicago style standards
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Power Point, and Excel
- Familiarity with Content Management Systems (CMS) and Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platforms

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Salary will be commensurate with background and experience. Benefits include PTO for vacation, sick and holidays; health care, vision and dental options; employer paid life and disability policies; 401k savings match.
