Full Job Description

The Role:

The Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) Scientist will be responsible for all aspects related to food safety, quality, and compliance to food regulations. This individual will work closely with the Food R&D Team and the entire cross-functional team, including Marketing and Sales. Work at Meati Foods is fast-paced and provides an exceptional amount of hands-on experience, responsibilities, and exposure.

Responsibilities:

  • Daily assessment of process quality parameters and food safety and quality systems, including raw materials, calibration, maintenance, and procedures
  • Carries out data analysis, trend identification, troubleshooting, corrective action, and communication about processing data, final product
  • Ensures compliance and implements Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Master Batch Records, Change Orders, Material Review Notices (MRNs), establishes Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPAs) addressing root cause
  • Assists or performs internal audits and supplier audits
  • Supports FDA and customer audits, maintains appropriate FDA registrations
  • Oversees training and training documentation for all Meati employees
  • Interprets statutes, regulations, policies, and guidance for Meati team, communicating how these impact product development, manufacturing, and/or marketing
  • Remains current on regulatory issues/trends affecting Meati products, assessing and communicating their impact to product development/mfg teams
  • Works closely with Mfg to review and approve product labeling changes, promotional literature and marketing materials, product rework
  • Helps monitor, maintain, and improve the quality system and serve as the person responsible for post-market surveillance, reporting and recalls

 Must Haves:

  • Certified Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI), HACCP certified, GMPs, GLPs, SQF, GFSI regulations, BRC qualifications, some laboratory management experience, FDA/USDA/FSMA regulations, ISO accreditations for Food Safety
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Articulate and professional communication skills – both written and oral
  • Strong time management – getting projects completed on time, every time
  • Detail-oriented

  • Skilled problem-solving and analytical skills

Education/Training:

  • 10+ years working for a Food Company – either mature start-up or established CPG
  • S. or M.S. degree in food science, nutrition
  • Detailed knowledge of regulatory issues and interpretation of regulations and legal affairs
  • Know-how of Quality and Regulatory principles
  • Nice to have: Project Management skills

Working Conditions:

  • Sitting and/or standing for long periods of time
  • Work with and near fermentation and food mfg equipment
