The Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which offers a free sober active community to individuals who have suffered from a substance use disorder and to those who choose a sober life. Using a peer support model, we help members heal and rebuild their lives while also striving to eliminate stigma around recovery. Activities offered include group fitness, climbing, hiking, boxing, running, yoga, road & mountain biking, and strength training. Through traditional fundraising strategies and revenue ventures, The Phoenix is able to provide free programs for anyone with at least 48 hours of continuous sobriety. The Phoenix currently operates in 45 communities across 24 states.

Full Job Description

You're a detail-oriented, experienced team leader with several years' experience prospecting, writing, and reporting on grants, as well as overseeing a team of grant writers. You have a successful track record with a diverse grant portfolio, including private foundations, academic institutions, and complex government grants. You value a collaborative, team-oriented approach, but aren't afraid to roll up your sleeves and do the work. You're also passionate about recovery from substance use disorder and believe in the power of community. You've seen the challenges that stigma creates and want to help us fight them. The Phoenix is looking to scale our national impact and has a goal of reaching over one million people by 2025. As our Senior Grants Manager, you'll join a rapidly-growing organization and help us grow and expand our programs across the country. This role will require a multidimensional, creative approach.

The Senior Grants Manager will work with our National Development Team to develop a strategy, and work with a small grants team and national program staff to pursue funding from diverse funding streams. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy that includes foundation, corporate, and government grants to ensure sustainability and targeted growth both within specific regions and nationally
  • Oversee national grants team
  • Work collaboratively with development teams and program staff to ensure we are diversifying our funds nationally
  • Develop an annual calendar of grant submission opportunities and reports
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with local foundation representatives
  • Perform prospect research to identify new funders
  • Develop, write, and submit grant applications
  • Oversee all aspects of grant writing, tracking, timelines, and reports
  • Manage grant-maker relations, including maintaining accurate donation data and acknowledging awards
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to travel for meetings as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5 years' grant-writing experience
  • A history of success with foundation, government, and academic grants
  • 2+ years' experience grants management (overseeing a team of grant-writers; developing a broader strategy for pursuing grant funding)
  • Possess excellent organizational and communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to quickly adapt to change
  • Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment, and proficient with software including word processing, spreadsheet applications and email
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to relate to people from all walks of life
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, humility, and integrity
  • Lived experience as a peer in recovery preferred

  • Experience with other aspects of non-profit development and fundraising
  • Lived experience as a peer in recovery

  • Bi-lingual/multilingual
