Job summary

O2 is looking for a seasoned executive to serve as second-in-command to the CEO in the role of COO, CFO, or similar, responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the business. This person is an “integrator” who will report directly to the CEO and will lead/manage the rest of the organization underneath them, ensuring P&L targets are achieved and the business strategy is executed. This role is best suited for someone who can roll up their sleeves as part of a 10 person team but is equally equipped to manage a 50 person team in 2-3 years.

In this role, you will:

  1. Faithfully execute the business plan, achieving or exceeding planned P&L objectives
  2. Lead the long-term and short-term planning process to develop and assign KPIs throughout the organization
  3. Lead, manage, and hold the team accountable for achieving agreed upon KPIs
  4. Integrate all major operating functions of the business. Ensure everyone is rowing together in the same direction, always working toward the greater good of the business
  5. Resolve issues effectively - seeing real problems, being comfortable with conflict, calling out the problems, and solving the problems in a practical and healthy manner. Build and maintain a healthy, functional, and cohesive spirit among the team
  6. Ensure that everyone is truly following and adhering to the company’s core processes and operating system with consistency. 
  7. Demonstrate effective project management skills to “keep the trains running on time”
  8. Dependably demonstrate a relentless obsessions with values alignment, focus, simplicity, and clarity
  9. Effectively collaborate with the CEO and stay on the same page. Serve as a sounding board for ideas the CEO has while possessing an ability to filter and translate those ideas into functional plans for the company
  10. Confirm that all key messages are properly and consistently cascaded across the organization. Inherently ensure that everyone is in the know. Constantly verify that a high level of effective communication exists throughout the organization

Greater level of detail on what you’ll do

  • Provide clarity, prioritization, and communication across all functions of the organization
  • Ensure focus and accountability to deliver execution at the highest levels
  • Serve as the “glue” that holds everything together
  • Achieve target P&L results and execute the business strategy by keeping the team focused on reaching goals/quarterly targets
  • Plan and maintain a budget to support sales goals and guard cash against over/under performance to plan; forecast cash and inventory in various scenarios and ensure we never run out of either
  • Lead the monthly forecast, monthly actual reporting and analysis, and annual operating plan. Provide variance analysis, determine cause of change, and adjust plans as needed
  • Manage projects and provide follow-through while removing obstacles/barriers
  • Retain and grow talent to ensure the right people are in the right seats
  • Ensure the team is harmoniously integrated and keep everyone on the same page
  • Collaborate with the CEO to execute his vision while serving as a sounding board and often a devil’s advocate/chief pessimist 
  • Provide leadership, management, and accountability for the leadership team
  • Hold the leadership team accountable to the vision, goals, and quarterly targets
  • Ensure the company operating system is being followed by all
  • Run the day-to-day tasks and ensure all people are rowing in the same direction 
  • Develop and enhance financial planning and analysis discipline throughout the company

Your background

  • Minimum 15 years experience in finance/operations, preferably in food/beverage/CPG 
  • Experience working in fast-growing, lean startup companies 
  • Experience wearing multiple hats and rolling up sleeves within a remote start-up environment (no job is too small)
  • Exceptional planning, analytical, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills
  • BS/BA in Accounting, Finance, Operations or relevant field; MBA/MS/MA is a plus
  • Unquestionable ethics and integrity with a track record to prove it
  • Extensive direct-report leadership experience
  • A passion for fitness, health, and wellness
  • Willing and able to work unconventional hours (e.g., some nights and weekends)
