We currently offer over 400 “off-the-shelf” book sets on juniperbooks.com and on a handful of retail partners including Huckberry, Uncrate, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Maisonette.
We are a team of 20 based in beautiful Boulder, Colorado. Over the years we have curated and designed one-of-a-kind book collections and libraries for thousands of clients in 65+ countries around the world. Our enviable custom base includes many celebrities, business leaders, top hospitality and luxury brands, leading interior designers, architects, and real estate developers. We are searching for a Director of Design who will support our efforts to develop new products, enter new markets, and establish new business models.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Juniper Books is looking to hire one super talented, creative, and ambitious individual with an open mind, an appetite for challenge, and an unstoppable drive to change the world through books and the power of print.
The Juniper Books Director of Design will be part of our leadership team setting strategy for the future. They will work directly with our founder & CEO on existing and new initiatives.
Attitude and the proven ability to be creative and get things done are more important than experience in any particular field. A background in product design, book design, publishing, graphic design, interior design, architecture, and/or e-commerce, are all relevant and helpful.
Key Responsibilities
- Be a key part of our management team, making key decisions for the direction of the company and the culture of our work environment.
- Manage graphic design team (currently 3 designers), establishing best practices, and taking a continuous improvement approach to all that we do.
- Maintain Juniper Books style guide and ensure that all of our materials are consistently and well branded, revise it as needed to keep it fresh.
- Implement new product development including book sets and related products.
- Provide insight and support for designers
- Work with the Founder and CEO to launch Juniper Books custom publishing initiative, establishing new vendor relationships to achieve the highest quality output.
- Work collaboratively with the Marketing team and contractors on social media, digital marketing, photo shoots, website, and other initiatives.
- Roll up your sleeves, create and inspire through the work you do. We are a small company and each team member wears multiple hats and sets an example for others. We figure things out as we go, strive to continuously improve, have fun with books, and make customers really happy!
Experience and Qualifications:
- Must have advanced knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and Lightroom
- Proven ability to meet deadlines while maintaining accuracy and focus
- Passion for design and books
- Experience in print production
- Ability to think logically, critically, and work well under pressure
- A can-do, optimistic attitude, open to learning and a growth mindset
