The Phoenix is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which offers a free sober active community to individuals who have suffered from a substance use disorder and to those who choose a sober life. Using a peer support model, we help members heal and rebuild their lives while also striving to eliminate stigma around recovery. Activities offered include group fitness, climbing, hiking, boxing, running, yoga, road & mountain biking, and strength training. Through traditional fundraising strategies and revenue ventures, The Phoenix is able to provide free programs for anyone with at least 48 hours of continuous sobriety. The Phoenix currently operates in 45 communities across 24 states.

Full Job Description

You are an effective program strategist with experience supervising high-level national teams. You have successfully scaled impactful programs and have achieved significant quantifiable program results within the nonprofit sector. You're passionate about recovery from substance use and believe in the power of community. You've seen the challenges that stigma creates and want to help us fight them. This position will ideally be located in Denver, Colorado or Boston, Massachusetts (other locations will be considered depending on the candidate) and will oversee the national program strategy for the organization, innovating current processes to drive growth and success rates. The role will supervise senior program leaders and design the systems and communication channels necessary to align regional and national program teams. Experience creating and implementing large-scale program evaluation strategies will be key to success in this role. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee organization-wide program strategy

  • Design a comprehensive long-term national program and community-building strategy that includes a variety of channels (in-person, virtual, on-demand, Phoenix app, etc.) led by Phoenix staff and volunteers
  • Translate above strategy into annual, quarterly, and monthly plans to deliver on program goals
  • Build, augment, and improve operational structures as needed to ensure efficient execution of goals by regional program leaders
  • Continually identify opportunities to strengthen program capability and increase impact
  • Set and achieve annual budget goals in close collaboration with the Executive Director and leadership team; monitor and report on progress against these goals and analyze trends in order to make adjustments throughout the year
Supervise senior program leaders nationally
  • Engage as a thought partner with on-the-ground senior managers to catalyze growth-oriented programming in 30+ states
  • Motivate, inspire, and coach the wider programming team in developing and executing on local, regional and national strategies and in their own professional development
  • Foster effective national and cross-functional communications to ensure optimal deployment of programming strategies and knowledge sharing
  • Travel up to 20%
Perform ongoing evaluation and analysis of all areas of programming
  • Create and execute a comprehensive ongoing evaluation plan
  • Analyze metrics and report findings to leadership team
  • Determine and oversee improvements for overall program strategy based on data trends and projections
  • Present to the Board of Directors and key partners on programming impact
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 10+ years of experience in progressive nonprofit programming roles, culminating in a national leadership role for an organization of at least 100 employees
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a team of high-level regional leaders
  • Extensive experience with program evaluation and metrics analysis
  • Ability to innovate and think creatively and strategically
  • Talent for building relationships and creating buy-in across a range of stakeholders
  • Expert knowledge of the nonprofit programming landscape, including common challenges and growth strategies
  • Proactive attitude, future-focused thinking, and ability to achieve in a fast-paced environment
PREFERENCES
  • Ability to build and improve systems and tools for program operations
  • BA/BS or advanced degree, preferably in related field
  • Lived experience as a peer in recovery
