Ridgeline, based in Boulder, invests in and acquires companies that help people live a healthier life.  Founded in 2015, we apply a long-term minded, operationally-focused approach to investing. We’re a tight-knit team that’s comprised of three Partners, all of whom have prior operating experience, and one Senior Associate, who joined our firm in 2021 after spending three years in investment banking. As it relates to our current investments, our portfolio is comprised of seven companies across the consumer and active lifestyle industries, with The Pro’s Closet, Cotopaxi, Bobo’s, and Joyfull Bakery representing the majority of our capital deployed, to-date. While prioritizing returns, we seek to invest in and partner with businesses that are on a mission to improve our world – both on a local and global scale. On a day-to-day basis, we’re actively involved in supporting the growth of our portfolio companies, which ranges from a typical investor / board member position to a more involved role that requires us to roll up our sleeves and dig in deep. Upon initial investment, most companies that we now look to partner with have grown to at least $5M-$40M in revenue, and have either i) achieved profitability, or ii) are able to demonstrate a clear pathway to profitability in the future.   

Reporting directly to the Senior Associate, the Analyst / Senior Analyst will play a critical role in contributing to the execution and implementation of Ridgeline’s strategic priorities. As an Analyst / Senior Analyst at Ridgeline, you’ll be tasked with supporting the Senior Associate in key aspects of our firm’s processes, including but not limited to industry and market research, category analyses and other data analytics, ad-hoc portfolio company analyses as requested, and other qualitative, quantitative, and administrative tasks as needed. Additionally, the Analyst / Senior Analyst will be instrumental in supporting the Senior Associate with all aspects of deal flow, including sourcing and lead generation, relationship-building efforts, investment evaluation, and transaction execution, among others. The Analyst / Senior Analyst will also play an important role in driving the day-to-day administration efforts of Ridgeline’s internal operations, which may involve interfacing with our accountants, lawyers, landlords, service providers, and other parties, as well as helping with other operational and / or administrative work as requested. 

Roles and Responsibilities

Activities will generally take the form of four different functions:

• Industry research and category analysis – Conduct market research to identify the most attractive areas for investment, based on guidance provided by the Senior Associate and Partners. Compile industry and other landscape analyses to help inform Ridgeline’s sourcing and deal flow efforts. In conjunction with the Senior Associate, regularly report and share findings with the Partners during internal investment meetings. Utilize public data sources to analyze industry and category trends to help better inform and support Ridgeline’s overall sourcing and investment process.
• Opportunity sourcing, evaluation, and execution – Based on Ridgeline’s investment criteria and desired areas of interest, work with the Senior Associate to help identify interesting categories and target companies for outreach. Post-outreach, help the Senior Associate to evaluate actionable opportunities according to Ridgeline’s internal criteria; bring qualified opportunities to the Partners; conduct due diligence which may include financial modeling, additional market and category research, competitive analyses, etc.; provide support for structuring investments and the execution of actionable deals.
• Portfolio company support – Work with the Senior Associate to provide portfolio companies with as-needed support. Proactively identify ways for Ridgeline to add value to our companies. Provide periodic reporting on the performance of our companies and portfolio more generally.
• Firm operations and administrations assistance – Provide support on internal, back-office activities that relate to the management of an investment firm and small business. This may involve interfacing with our accountants, lawyers, landlord, and other service providers, as well as providing administrative support to the Partners and Senior Associate as needed.  The objective is to help the firm operate more efficiently and productively.

Skills and Experience Required

• 1-3 years of previous investment banking, private equity, or consulting experience
• Demonstrated aptitude for qualitative and quantitative analysis, with a proven proficiency in PowerPoint & Excel
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Sound organizational skills and a keen attention to detail
• Strong work ethic with the ability to manage multiple tasks at once
• Ability to quickly adapt to a changing environment; capable of creating structure for yourself and for Ridgeline more broadly
