Full Job Description

Company Description

Summary of Position

Now more than ever, the states have a critical role to play in driving our country forward. The Impact Project (TIP) does this by: 1) winning progressive economic and democracy policies, and 2) shaping the issue and political environment so these states become more progressive over time.

TIP is in search of a seasoned campaign strategist who is a strong communicator and collaborator capable of bringing our impact and partnerships work to the next level. The Director of Impact and Partnerships is a key utility player responsible for developing and showcasing our impact and consistently adding value to the organization’s programmatic work. The Director of Impact and Partnerships will establish user-friendly systems to gauge our impact and package those real-time learnings for internal and external audiences, including national/regional partners as well as donors. You will translate learnings along with budding program ideas into easy to understand, compelling, succinct written and presentation products that will shape conversations and lead to investments and strategic calibrations in our work and across our field. You will act as a nexus between our program and state teams, spotting opportunities, gaps, and synergies, while also driving up quality controls. You will build and manage relationships with partners and related experts.

The Director of Impact and Partnerships reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff and will collaborate closely with the Executive Director, Chief of Staff, Vice Presidents, and State and Program Teams. The position is full time and considered exempt for overtime purposes.

TIP is 100% focused at the state level, driving 365 days a year to shape the politics and win policies. Our work is currently focused in AZ, CO, FL, GA, ME, MD, MI, MN, NV, NM, NC, PA, VA, and WI. We prioritize economic and democracy issues given their ability to change the rules of the game and improve the quality of life for working- and middle-class families.

Our Culture

Our culture is fast-paced and we push for results. We love data, experimentation, and learning from both successes and failures (instead of fearing them). And along the way, we strive to be less Eeyore and more Tigger in our approach. We seek team members who are creative, communicative self-starters who enjoy collaboration. We strive to ensure all roles on our team are manageable and sustainable, and invest in efforts to advance equity and belonging on our team.

The core values we live by include:

●       Agile – We move quickly and easily. We adapt.

●       Bold – We take risks. We are fearless in the face of big challenges.

●       Curious – We thirst for data and question assumptions.

●       Creative Disruptors – We stretch beyond the norm and innovate. We bring new ideas, new partners, and new strategies.

●       Dig Deep – We aren’t looking for surface wins, but fundamental shifts in power.

Qualifications

Who You Are

You will bring experience with advocacy and electoral campaigns, marketing and/or communications, data analysis, and research techniques. In addition, to be successful at this job you will excel in these areas:

●       Strategic Critical Thinker – You know TIP can achieve great things and can see the path to get there in your work. When faced with roadblocks, you come up with crafty and clever ways to proactively address and overcome them. You think three steps ahead, seeing and seizing new opportunities and/or course correcting. You bring a healthy skepticism to conventional campaign wisdom (“the way it’s always been done”), do your research, and innovate to identify and deploy the highest-impact practices.

●       Excellent Communicator – You have top-notch writing and speaking skills and can flawlessly develop mission-driven plans and presentations for a variety of audiences. You speak clearly on behalf of the organization and develop compelling, succinct presentations that pull donors and partners towards TIP. Your written and spoken words cut to the heart of issues, conveying TIP’s priorities in a way that attracts and holds their interests. Your skill draws the confidence of others on theTIP team, who use the take-aways and best practices on achieving impact that you develop. You’re skilled at running multi-stakeholder processes, gathering buy-in, soliciting feedback, and asking questions to understand others’ perspectives.

●       Skilled Collaborator & Team-Player – You seek out and partner with colleagues as well as external partners/experts to solve problems, seize opportunities, and drive impactful results. You adeptly build interpersonal relationships and leave processes and teams stronger than when you found them. You understand how identities and positional power – yours and your colleagues – influence and shape interactions, perceptions and experiences.

●       Highly Organized & Attention to Detail – This isn’t the first fast-paced environment you’ve worked in, and you manage your time in a way that drives forward your priorities, communicating your progress as you go. You can create systems and manage colleagues to keep priority items from slipping through the cracks. Your attention to detail serves you well in your nuanced written communications, too.

●       Strong Project Manager – You clearly define what success looks like, map out the plan forward, and consistently meet deadlines. You manage up and down to get buy-in and feedback along the way, and drive staff and partners to achieve their deliverables. You turn work around on tight timelines, while juggling multiple projects simultaneously. Your bias is toward getting things done. That doesn’t mean that you don’t do your research first, but you drive work forward with an urgency to see results, pushing through roadblocks and maneuvering around obstacles along the way.
