Position Title: Staff Accountant
The Staff Accountant is responsible for a variety of accounting activities, which may include invoicing and AR, AP and expense reports, month close processes and entries, sales and use tax work, year-end close work, audit support, and more.
This position requires an understanding of accounting principles and controls, as well as experience working with an accounting software system, ideally QuickBooks. In addition to QuickBooks, this role works with a variety of cloud-based systems, including: an inventory system, an EDI tool for sharing order/invoice information with customers, bill payment software, a T&E expense tool, a sales tax platform; a variety of customer portals; and a tradespend management system for tracking customer expenses.
The Staff Accountant works closely with other Accounting team members and members of the Operations and Sales departments, as well as external partners (Brokers and Customers). This position is for someone who is very trustworthy and detail oriented; they will help to ensure all finance policies and controls are followed.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Invoicing: ensure shipped products are accurately invoiced, transmitted across platforms and sent to customers.
- Accounts Receivable: post customer payments; research and account for short payments (deductions); work with Claims Specialist and Operations team to resolve issues; utilize customer portals and email to gather documentation and correspond with customers on AR questions; strive to keep all AR aging below 60 days.
- Accounts Payable: enter bills in bill payment software following coding and approval protocols; process T&E expenses via Concur; perform credit card reconciliations and provide journal entry inputs; assist with weekly payment runs.
- Sales Tax related activities: assist with sales and use tax calculations, ensure timely filings; maintain current resale certificates and tax licenses.
- Broker commissions: perform monthly analysis and reporting.
- Month-end close: compile and analyze information to prepare journal entries for properly stated financial statements.
- General accounting: review, investigate, and resolve accounting errors, discrepancies, and reconciling items; new customer set up; special accounting and finance projects as needed.

Qualifications / Education / Experience Desired:
- Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree, ideally in Accounting or Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting or Finance
- 3 years minimum of experience in an accounting position
- Experience working with QuickBooks
- Understanding of consumer products business, especially food industry, preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Experience with any of the following systems is helpful: SPS (or other EDI), BILL, Concur, Vividly or other tradespend system, Avalara
- Exceptional communication skills
- Desire to be part of a small (but mighty) business team supporting the growth of an exceptional food brand

- Must be able to accurately document information in a timely manner
- Must be able to write and speak, both clearly and effectively
- Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Math and computational skills required
Supervision Given:
- This position will report to the Assistant Controller
- This position is expected to be able to work with minimal oversight at times, and confidently handle co-worker and customer interactions on their own.
