We are Mike and Janet Johnston. As avid home cooks and bakers, we have always loved the idea of creating new blends and recipes to share with our family and friends.

In 2004, we combined our individual skills and experiences in marketing and the retail spice industry to open the very first Savory Spice location in Denver, Colorado. After the immediate success of our shop, we decided to take our concept a step further and created a Savory Spice website, allowing customers to purchase anything available in the store online.

Building on the positive response to our Denver store and internet marketing, we opened a second shop in Littleton, Colorado, followed by shops in Boulder and East Denver two years later.

Since then, with the help of employees, family members, and professional colleagues, our growth has been amazing.  Savory Spice and its franchisors now operate nearly 30 locations across the United States, and we continue to bring creative flavor solutions to our customers, from our popular Spice 'n Easy line to our ever-expanding new products and, of course, our customer favorites.

Description

Assists Manager with all business functions, which includes store operations and employees. Responsible for enhancing customer experience, meeting sales goals, and managing staff effectively.

Qualifications

Technical Skills/Training:

  • Minimum of 1-year management experience in the retail industry
  • Analyzing the business and trends; strong business acumen
  • Ability to recruit, hire and train
  • Food experience helpful, but a love of food is a MUST
  • Engaging retail floor personality
  • Customer management skills
  • Positive attitude and excellent communication skills
  • Merchandising skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Cash register knowledge necessary

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists Store Manager in running of the store.
  • Assists in hiring needs, including recruiting to fill open positions quickly.
  • Helps Store Manager develop business strategies to expand store traffic, customer base, and grow profitability.
  • Propose innovative ideas to increase store sales.
  • Demonstrates desired behaviors to help meet sales goals.
  • Assists in store administration, such as maintaining inventory and ensuring compliance of all policies and procedures.
    • Open and close the shop and the POS system.
    • Create monthly schedule for team when Manager is unable.
    • Expediting shipments/deliveries weekly and creating orders weekly when needed.
  • Assists the Store Manager in providing strong leadership to the team while helping to deliver consistent, in the moment, feedback and coaching.
  • Helps Store Manager identify training needs and helping to provide ongoing training to the team as needed
  • Regularly communicates with the Store Manager on all store specific happenings and to discuss store opportunities.
  • Ensures that all pricing, signage, and displays are correct at all times
  • Consistently creates a welcoming environment for customers by greeting and meeting their needs; leading by example for the team.
  • Maintain store standards, cleanliness standards, and visual standards.
  • Be a shining example to the team in behavior and performance.
