Access Fund is a nonprofit advocacy organization that leads and inspires the climbing community toward sustainable access and conservation of the climbing environment. Founded in 1991, Access Fund represents more than 7 million climbers across the country. We execute on that mission across six core program areas, including Climbing Policy and Advocacy, Stewardship and Conservation, Local Support and Mobilization, Land Acquisition and Protection, Risk Management and Land Owner Support, and Education.
Access Fund is seeking a strategic, creative, and highly collaborative Digital Marketing & Membership Director to lead and implement growth and direct response marketing strategies to support our mission. Reporting to the VP of Marketing & Philanthropy, this role’s primary objective will be to acquire, engage, and retain members/donors by leading targeted digital and direct mail campaigns, as well as other related marketing initiatives.
Access Fund maintains its national headquarters in Louisville, Colorado. This position is eligible for hybrid or remote work arrangements; however, preference will be given to candidates within close proximity to a major market (Denver, Colorado; Portland, Oregon; Salt Lake City, Utah; Chattanooga, Tennessee).
Responsibilities

The right candidate is willing to roll up their sleeves, and will be entrusted with the following key responsibilities:
Digital Marketing & Fundraising

Collaborate with VP Marketing & Philanthropy to develop and execute comprehensive growth and direct response marketing strategies aligned with the organization's fundraising goals and objectives.

Manage the organization’s digital strategy with an eye toward optimizing fundraising and advocacy ROI. Lead channel execution for email, social, paid ads, paid search, organic search, and content optimizations.

Design and implement lead generation campaigns and nurture strategies to build Access Fund’s membership funnel and convert climbers into Access Fund members and advocates.

Lead multi-channel annual fundraising campaigns, leveraging internal and external talent and resources, collaborating with agency partner(s) in the production and delivery of marketing and campaign creative.

Implement campaign tracking standards and systemetize processes that will enable scalability over time.

Continually refine and optimize marketing initiatives using market research, A/B testing, segmentation, and data-driven insights.
Membership Program

Oversee budgeting, day-to-day management, and revenue targets for Access Fund’s dynamic membership program. This includes oversight of the entire membership engagement lifecycle—from lead generation, to lead nurture, conversion, retention, loyalty, and upsell.

Oversee the membership journey and experience, including list segmentation for campaigns, optimizing membership/donation forms, overseeing membership benefits, building email automations, fulfillment of membership materials, renewal emails, direct mail letters, etc.

Utilize leading-edge data analytics and predictive modeling techniques to grow the member base, member value, member engagement, and net revenue. Develop marketing attribution reports and dashboards to show KPIs, ROI, and revenue against annual goals.

Provide regular quarterly reports on the health and growth of the membership program to the Leadership Team and the Board of Directors.
Cross Functional Collaboration

Work closely with the Brand Marketing & Communications Director to develop multichannel campaigns that increase brand awareness and facilitate lead generation and advocacy activities.

Collaborate with the Philanthropy Team to support events, corporate partnerships, and major gifts functions with a goal of maximizing philanthropic revenue to the organization.

Work closely with Data Systems & Tech Analyst to ensure the health, data integrity, and integration of the technology systems needed to run a sophisticated performance marketing program. This includes email marketing platform, CRM, and advocacy software.

Act as manager and mentor to the Membership Marketing Manager and oversee the membership fulfillment and support portion of the Membership Coordinator work.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or combination of equivalent experience
-
5-7 years of demonstrated effectiveness in performance marketing. Must have a proven track record managing digital marketing for a growing organization.

Strong experience with current digital concepts, strategy, and marketing automation software and CRMs. Experience with ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, and Salesforce is a plus.

Demonstrated experience leading both the strategy and implementation of email segmentation and automation, paid ads, website and landing page design in a CMS, organic social, SEO/SEM, and the measurement, metrics, and ROI of digital programs.

Experience managing a brand across diverse digital channels and large audiences.

Demonstrated aptitude in planning, time management, project management, and budget management.

A collaborative attitude and commitment to the success of the broader team and organizational goals.

Commitment to JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) principles and experience applying JEDI principles to external marketing.

Knowledge of the national outdoor industry, land trust, and/or conservation nonprofit landscape is a plus.

Understanding of technical climbing and passion for the mission of protecting America’s climbing areas. While a high level of climbing ability is not necessary, you should be familiar with the culture of technical climbing.

Satisfactory completion of a background check.
Work Environment
Majority of work will be performed working at a computer. Travel required 2-3 times per year for our annual staff retreat, board meetings, and other events.
Compensation & Benefits

Salary: $75,000 - $85,000 depending on experience
