Are you a visionary leader who thrives in building strong relationships, fostering collaboration, achieving objectives efficiently, and continuously creating positive change in the mechanical contracting industry?

If so, we have an incredible opportunity for you to make a lasting impact and continue to drive our mission forward as the Executive Director of the Rocky Mountain Mechanical Contractors Association (RMMCA).

We are a pioneering trade association representing mechanical, plumbing and HVAC/R contractors across Colorado, Wyoming, western Nebraska, and South Dakota. With a rich history dating back to 1889, we have been at the forefront of promoting the industry and serving the needs of our 160+ member companies who primarily reside in Colorado. Our mission is to make the Rocky Mountain Region the best place to be a mechanical contractor by focusing on legislative advocacy, labor relations, education and training, and fostering relationships within the industry.

Reporting to our Board of Directors, composed of the visionary companies building the future of the Rocky Mountain region, you will be a true industry leader, collaborating with our team of lobbyists, advisors, and coalitions to set the direction of RMMCA and bring those visions to life.

Performing various roles, you will oversee a wide range of activities related to finances, marketing, staffing, and discretionary projects supporting the Association's operations. This is a chance to leverage your relationship-building skills, industry knowledge, and passion for the trades to make a significant impact on the mechanical contracting industry.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Strengthen Labor-Management Relationships

- Foster RMMCA's exceptionally strong, collaborative relationships with labor partners, some of the best in the country

- Serve as a bridge, facilitating open and honest communication between contractors and unions

- Work with partners to expand the market share of union plumbing, HVAC/R, and mechanical contracting

Prepare and lead contract negotiations, facilitate grievance hearings, and foster goodwill with labor partners

2. Membership Engagement

- Engage regularly with RMMCA's diverse contractors to understand their needs and industry trends

- Ensure value for all members, from large corporations to smaller family-owned shops

- Develop resources, programs, and events to support members' success and deliver ROI on their investment in RMMCA

- Strengthen the relationship with the Mechanical Contractors Association of America

- Attend conferences and engage with RMMCA members

- Promote RMMCA at MCAA and MSCA events and seminars

3. Education and Workforce Development

- Collaborate with unions and partner organizations to grow the Western States College of Construction, enabling paid apprenticeships where students graduate with associate's degrees debt-free

- Support and engage with the (SCI) Specialty Contractor Institute to provide local continuing

education opportunities for the RMMCA contractor employees.

- Facilitate impactful training opportunities for members' employees, supporting their growth and advancement

- Develop programs and partnerships to attract new talent to the skilled trade

4. Legislative and Regulatory Advocacy

- Work with lobbyists to monitor legislation and advocate for a business-friendly environment

- Build coalitions to influence policy decisions to help members thrive while providing outstanding career opportunities for their workforce

- Keep members informed of regulatory changes impacting the industry and provide resources to support adoption


5. Organizational Leadership

- Provide strategic guidance to the Board on key issues shaping RMMCA's future

- Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and adaptability

- Develop and mentor a passionate, knowledgeable staff to effectively serve our members

- Prepare and manage the annual budget for RMMCA

- Uphold fiduciary duties by ensuring prudent management of the health and welfare board's assets, making decisions in the best interest of plan participants, and overseeing the administration of benefits in alignment with the plan's terms and legal requirements

 

Job requirements

- A proven leader and consensus-builder who leads with humility and respect

- An outstanding listener and communicator who fosters trust and transparency

- Knowledgeable about the mechanical trades and contracting industry

- Politically savvy and able to build consensus and unite people around common goals

- Passionate about empowering people through education, resources and creating career opportunities

- A systems-thinker who is strategic, innovative and results-oriented

- Proven leadership experience in business or associations with a demonstrable impact

- Skilled negotiator and communicator, adept in managing diverse stakeholder relationships.

- Bachelor's degree; advanced degree is a plus but not required.

- Authorized to work anywhere in the US.

- Position is based in Colorado and candidate will work on-site at our headquarters in downtown Denver.

- Experience with unions or the skilled trades would be ideal but not required.

- Occasional overnight travel required

 

We offer a competitive compensation package of $150-215K base salary, depending on relevant experience, demonstrated skills, education, certification(s), etc., plus a performance-based bonus of 0-20%. Generous benefits including and opportunities for professional and personal growth.
